A Little Green

Even during the winter there was still some green showing in the top of this tree.

Waning Crescent

The waning crescent moon... 19% of full.

Waiting For Their Return

Their house is ready and waiting for them to return and to start a family.

Fries To Die For

These are the best fries, along with their burgers, I have ever had.

The old homestead. I wonder who lived there. When was the last time someone lived there? How many people in the family? It's obvious they were farmers.

Civil War Vet

William F Cuthbertson was 25 yrs old when the Civil War started and he served in CO I, 48th NC Regiment. Died at age 50, 21 years after the Civil War.
48th Infantry Regiment completed its organization in March, 1862, at Camp Mangum, near Raleigh, North Carolina. Men of this unit were recruited in the counties of Union, Davidson, Iredell, Moore, Chatham, and Forsyth. Ordered to Virginia, the regiment was assigned to General J.G. Walker's and Cooke's Brigade. It fought with the Army of Northern Virginia from the Seven Days' Battles to Fredericksburg , then moved to Pocataligo, South Carolina, where it was stationed until August, 1863. Returning to Virginia, the 48th was involved in the conflicts at Bristoe, The Wilderness , Spotsylvania , and Cold Harbor . It then endured the hardships of the Petersburg siege south of the James River and the Appomattox operations. It reported 18 killed and 70 wounded at Oak Grove , lost over fifty percent of the 400 in the Maryland Campaign,…

Reach To The Sky

If you reveal your secrets to the wind you should not blame the wind for revealing them to the trees.

Lightning Rod

Sure would like to know just how old this lightning rod is. There are three of them on this old house.

The Promised Land

Yes, just over that hilltop, "The Promised Land". No, I didn't walk up there to see it but it's something that I do believe in and I will see it soon enough.

Farley's - Local Pizza Joint

A local pizza place in Mineral Springs, NC. Nope, I haven't ever eaten there so I can't tell you what it's like, but I do know that I myself prefer a local place like this over some chain outfit.

This is a canal from Lake Wiley that goes up to the Duke Energy Allen Steam Plant.

Smoking Tree

Well actually this is from the Duke Energy Allen Steam Plant.

Now this I know to be a bluebird... I could tell by it's color.

Bruton Smith Blvd

The Blvd that leads you to the Charlotte Motor Speedway. The name say's it all.

The Calm After The Storm

After the snow storm... After the ice storm... Just Carolina blue skies and the ice still on the trees. Now it is just pure beauty.

I Heard That Lonesome Whistle Blow

Well at least the 9:49 is running late.

Life On Goldenwillow Drive - Part II

So, all one can do is have a drink with the "Goldenwillow Drive Social Director". The van had lost it's radiator hose and the guy was really lucky he didn't blow the engine or transmission. So as of now it's just staying there in the roadway and the guys are having a few drinks. No one can go down or up our street. It's now blocked. So they need to wait until Thursday when we get a thaw.

Ice Storm

I took this video at 8:00AM today, 1/11/11. We had the snow yesterday and then a freezing rain last night. Of course our entire housing area is very hilly so there is just no way in hell one is going to get out of here. Oh yes, they do try, but they don't get very far. Our temp is still only 29 and will probably get about 1 hour where the temp will be above 32, so don't plan on going anywhere for awhile.

A Lesson For All

I ran across this on another site and felt it was worth sharing. Please read the whole story; it's short and really won't take you that long. Lord, please let me learn from this story.

I Am the Disabled Child
I am the child who cannot talk.
You often pity me. I see it in your eyes. You wonder how much I am aware of...I see that as well. I am aware of much...whether you are happy or sad or fearful, patient or impatient, full of love and desire, or if you are just doing your duty by me. I marvel at your frustration, knowing mine to be far greater, for I cannot express myself nor my needs as you do. You cannot conceive my isolation, so complete it is at times. I do not gift you with clever conversation, cute remarks to be laughed over and repeated. I do not give you answers to your everyday questions, responses over my well-being, sharing my needs, or comments about the world around me. I do not give you rewards as defined by the world's stardards...great strides in development…

The Hawk

I was able to catch a picture of this hawk out in the woods behind the house. I would guess he was maybe  50-75 yards away from me when I took the picture. I believe this to be a red shouldered hawk

Another Snow Day In Charlotte

Yes, another snow day here in Charlotte and I would guess that we have about 3" of snow on the ground right now. All schools are closed along with many business's including most doctor's offices. So a good day to sit inside with a warm cup of coffee and surf the net and try to come up with ideas on what to post on this blog so it would hopefully be a little more interesting.

My Dream Home

I could picture this house located out in the middle of nowhere, maybe western NC, or KY, or TN, or just wherever. A place where one is all alone and of course, no snow.

Click below on Harbinger to view the house.

A work in progress or a work completed... Not all sure about this one.

Hungry? Oh Yeah!

Now this is a unique name for a place, just plain "Yeah". Hey, haven't been there to try out the food, but will have to check it out one of these days.
