S.W. & C.S. Davis General Store

I just happened to catch some NC travel documentary on one of our local TV station's one night and this guy was travelling around NC and visiting old stores and the like here in NC. Well one of them happened to be this general store and since it was rather close I thought I would take a ride out and see it myself. Well, when you walk in there, it is like stepping back into the early 1900's. It is really neat to see. Lot's of different things available here that you just will not see in the big box stores. Click HERE to read the history of this store.

Court Street, Jacksonville, NC

Where did they all go? The jewelry store? The bars? The restaurants? The clothing stores? But, as I stopped to walk and take a couple of pictures I could still hear the sounds, see the sights, and smell the food from my memories of Court Street. So many changes in the past 46 years...

And of course, don't forget Old Bridge Street

Stonewall Jackson Training School

Welcome to the Stonewall Jackson Training School located just outside Concord, NC. These here are the original buildings that were built back in 1909. Of course there is a much newer facility located behind all these buildings now. It was the first juvenile home in the state of North Carolina. I have to sit here and wonder what kind of boys were sent here. How were they treated here? Did they go on and lead productive lives from here?

The Cannon House

One of the "cottages", as they were called, where the boys were put up.

Another one of the "cottages".

The grounds around the school and cottages.

Concord Mills Mall

Finally back to the walking routine, I hope. On the cold and really hot days I can come here and walk in the mall. It's .8 miles per lap and if you walk all the entrance's it's 1 mile per lap. If the weather is good then I can go to the Fairfield Park over in Mint Hill and walk one of the two courses there.
